School of Visual Story Telling- Assignment 1 pt1

The time has finally come for me to start my first class: “Illustration for Storytellers.” The first assignment is:
Illustrate the following line of text:
“It was a bright sunny morning as Koki left for school, but today he thought he would take a different path. What he didn’t realize…”
With a name like “Koki,” I couldn’t get the thought that he was a savage island child out of my head. Because that was my first thought, I assumed everyone else would create something along those lines as well, so I just picked a different island, JAPAN.
I have the strangest fascination with Japanse Folklore, so I decided to choose one of these creatures to represent Koki. The first one that came to mind was a Kitsune, so there you have it, Koki is a one eyed Kitsune.
For his pathway. I wanted something unique and treacherous, so I chose to put some interesting creatures along the way. The turtle like man known as “kappa” lurks under the bridge waiting for unsuspecting travelers. There are three bird like creatures known as “Tengu,” perched on the shrine, waiting to swoop down and rip the Kitsune apart. Finally a dragon awaits at the school and Mt Fuji erupts in the background.
Not your typical day or pathway to school.
